Throwback Writing: Simple
Ah, the woes of a growing young woman. In high school and college I had a series of poems I called, "Broken Hearted." I will say, I wasn't always - ever, at that age - astute with relationships. By the time I got to the writing poetry part, however, I felt I nailed what went wrong pretty well, even on my side.
This poem is from January 2002. The left side is woebegone, more "first time around", but the right side context was interesting. I remember specifically wanting to experiment with adding lines that changed only one word at a time, and low and behold - the poetry found a deeper truth.
